How to Choose the Right Horse Agility Equipment
The difference between excellent and mediocre agility gear comes down to material safety and modular flexibility. High-quality equipment uses UV-stabilized, shatterproof plastics and rot-resistant materials that survive being stepped on and left in the rain, whereas cheaper alternatives quickly become brittle or waterlogged.
Look for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) poles and cones rather than standard PVC, as HDPE will not shatter into dangerous shards if a horse accidentally steps on it.
Ignore marketing claims of universal fit for jump cups; instead, verify the exact millimeter track depth to ensure compatibility with your existing stands.
For desensitization tarps and water trays, check the denier rating. Anything under 600D will tear easily under hooves, so opt for heavy-duty reinforced vinyl.
If you travel frequently to clinics, prioritize kits with custom canvas carry bags, as loose poles and cones are notoriously difficult to transport safely in a standard horsebox.
